Silk Flowers

How about starting my blog with a throwback. It’s been a long time since I worked with textiles, my first artistic love.

My textile work is characterised by layers and stitch, with the latter being a response to the surface design and texture.

This is a series of early pieces that I just love. I had a spare scrap of silk scarf with beautiful painted flowers on it that I felt was really precious even if I had acquired it and had no history* with it. So I cut it up (it was already a scrap!) and stitched the pieces onto background fabric, tracing the delicacy of the drawing with flowing free-machine stitching.

*It’s worth noting that I usually work with textiles that I have some kind of connection with.
